Accommodation

"Did I mention the food? the accommodations? the massage? I could go on and on, raving about Tembe, but I will sum it up with: I can't wait to return. This was the best lodge experience in 3 trips to Africa and 5 or 6 different lodges, mostly because it was managed and staffed by the Tembe people instead of "outsiders."  Karen, USA

Feast under African skies

Enjoy an early breakfast followed by a morning safari game drive. The guides will ensure you return just in time for a light brunch and an afternoon nap in the welcoming green shadow of your tent.

Or cool off in the friendly pool near the boma, later in the afternoon when the temperature dips, you can venture off on the exciting afternoon safari game drive with sundowners overlooking a water hole.

On your return, enjoy wholesome bush cuisine served under the stars by lamplight in the communal dining boma, surrounded by the thrilling sounds of the bush. Swap tales with your fellow guests as you bask in the warmth of the campfire, watching the spectacular evening display of acapella isicatamiya singing.

Live in royal African style

Come and tuck yourself away in the untamed bush. Tembe Elephant Park is a place for wilderness purists, who like to feel that they are in the middle of an ancient land far away from noise and hassle of modern life. Your accommodation is in canvas tents so as not to block out the sounds of the bush; an outdoor shower under the stars or in the early morning sunlight is a wonderful way to feel as if you are standing under a (warm) waterfall in the middle of the wilderness. Everywhere you look, there is a reminder that life is more than deadlines, rush and hurry, ringing telephones and traffic. There is a timelessness about Tembe that is truly invigorating and refreshing. However, there is no sacrifice of luxury - the en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds, superb service - all of these will make you feel like African royalty.

It is at night that you will really feel the power of the wilderness: a huge moon making shadows of silver; the smell of the vegetation cooling down after the heat of the day; more stars than you would have believed possible; the silence of the night broken by the calls of animals. From the after-dinner fireside with songs and stories and a possible night-cap, when you walk to your tent feeling the cool air of night on your face, to the enthusiastic dawn chorus of birds in the early sunlight, the cheerful rattle of cups as you are brought your morning coffee, the smell of cool earth refreshed by dew: these are unmistakably Tembe.

Whatever your tastes in life, let Tembe feed your soul.
